For my final project, I decided to choose an image that was recognizable to people all over the world. I thought that a one hundred foot tall statue of Jesus would do the trick. I chose the image of Christ the Redeemer in the clouds specifically for two reasons. The first reason is because I thought that all of the negative space would provide a good canvas for me to make my changes. I also chose this image because I thought the fact that you can only see the Redeemer above the clouds. I feel the original image looked very heavenly.
The first changes I made using the creative process we studied in class were a way for me to simply experiment with Photoshop and toy around with some ideas I had to change the image. After becoming comfortable with Photoshop my piece really began to take shape. I am very happy with how the lighting came out to look as if it were really in the sky. The moon and the raven were sort of random additions to the piece, but I found them to fit very well.
For my second change, I got inspiration from the moon and the raven. I wanted to compliment them with something on the opposite side of the piece. After adding the earth and the dove, I thought about Kaylee’s comments about how it was unclear what the hands were reaching for. Upon consideration of this comment, I added a larger image of the Redeemer and it just so happened that the hands matched up with the moon and Earth.
I also cleaned the hands up a bit and changed the opacity of a few layers. I found this process to be very thrilling. It was interesting to see what I could come up with regarding creative ideas through this process.
I found this project to be beneficial to my creative abilities and I feel that I have developed a new skill because of it. I feel confident in my creative thoughts and look forward to using the methods of the creative process that we practiced in class.

Sorry, I couldn't get the comic to upload horizontally even though I saved it the proper way.

I followed the advice from my comments and changed the background. I did this to further convey isolation. I also added the flower to emphasize the idea of production, because the flower is in the heart, it represents production and life.

In this comic strip, Bucky the cat is talking to his owner about national anthems. Apparently, according to Bucky, France has the best national anthem and when asked who has the worst, he responds by bashing Japan’s national anthem. He compares Japans national anthem to the work of a drugged composer (Chopin) and the flight of a moth. When his owner criticizes him about his outrageous comments, Bucky responds with another comment with the intention to insult Japan again. I found this comic funny because of the comparisons Bucky uses to describe Japan’s anthem, but the punch line sort of reiterates the point and I think is not quite as funny as the middle frame.

Working hands

OOPS I misspelled veins! haha
The single glove sits on a jet black background leaving the glove standing alone in and empty space. It is a left handed glove. The Glove has vain hand stitched in detail running all the way to the finger tips. It appears to be suede, which indicates that the glove is not meant for working but for comfort and style. Also suede is fairly delicate and becomes discolored in water therefore the image seems rather delicate. Other than the black background and the gray glove, the red of the vain is the only color in the image.
The solitary nature of the glove suggests to me a sense of isolation. To further intensify the isolation it is a left handed glove. This also signifies difference because the majority of humans are not left handed. The contrast of black, gray, and red along with the very plain feel to the image brings the focus to the center of the image where the vain is thickest and most bright.
This image animates a lifeless object by giving it blood. The glove has blood running through it and therefore must be alive. Although it is alive, it is also lonely. Gloves always come in pairs, except this one stands alone in blackness with no right hand. So what is this glove for? The glove is fragile and seems to serve no purpose. The vain gives it life but other than that is does nothing; it just sits alone in space.

Proposed photo for modification

This is a sandstone wall in Utah's Arches national park. I took the photo 2 years ago on one of my trips across the country. I think the wide open space will allow me to modify it how I want. I've got some fun ideas for it!

An awkward silence accompanied by a relentless, monotone buzz of electricity distracted me for a moment as I entered the gallery. Unsure murmurs echoed in the open room while my peers observed exocentric pieces of art. Some leaned against the bare wall facing an enormous sculpture made of wood and metal that resembled a crank. Some sat choosing to observe and reflect on smaller more detailed art whiles other stood disinterested and disruptive.

A maze of pastel piping overhead distracts my eye as I tried to focus on a specific piece but there were too many people moving around. The lack of windows and natural light gave the gallery the feel of a basement or dungeon and added to the un-natural vibration of electricity humming overhead.

Finally my discomfort was relived when I was able to look away from the crowd and the ceiling and focus on the art around me. The pieces were physically tangible and delicate but abstract and inviting. I was curious about the artists and found a nice booklet contain the information I desired. After studying the information on the artists I began studying the art it’s self.

The intricate but seemingly random pottery was what first attracted my eye. They looked as though some one had mad a lot of jugs blindfolded, they were very interesting. Next I focused of the MC Escher looking stairway cut out in three dimensions on paper. As I looked at it I tried to follow the steps all the way around. I couldn’t and wondered if this was significant to the meaning of the piece.

Finally I sat and simply took in the experience of the gallery; a simple room containing very complex ideas and creativity. It was I liked hoe the walls were for the most part plain while the center of the room was exploding with color, texture, mass, and art!

This is an authentic Mongolian yurt that me and a close friend of mine lived in during the 06/07 winter. It was a very enlightening experience as well as physically demanding. The door was hand painted as well as the interior. I hope this intrigues you all. Until next time ...
